Zeek Solutions has signed a contract together with Aker BP to deliver SPAS to the Yggdrasil field. The solution will provide better visibility of technical safety functions and support the continued operation of the facility.
A new chapter for SPAS in the North Sea
“We are very grateful for the trust Aker BP has shown by selecting SPAS for Yggdrasil,” says Jon Slang, CEO of Zeek Solutions.
Yggdrasil is currently the largest ongoing development on the Norwegian continental shelf and marks a new chapter for a mature area in the North Sea.
Building on experience from Edvard Grieg
Aker BP has previously implemented SPAS at the Edvard Grieg field to monitor technical safety functions and streamline maintenance activities. The experience gained there forms an important foundation as the solution is now introduced at Yggdrasil.
SPAS provides continuous insight into the status of safety barriers and makes it easier to plan and carry out maintenance activities.
Assisted commissioning of safety functions
At Yggdrasil, Aker BP will also use SPAS actively during the completion and commissioning of the facility. The solution will verify the condition of safety functions as they are finalized, before the process plant is put into operation.
SPAS will subscribe to the specifications for the safety functions and continuously verify that equipment and functions meet the defined requirements. Status will be presented in the SPAS dashboard, allowing both operations personnel and management to easily follow the progress.
“We strongly believe in this approach,” says Slang. “It provides a much clearer overview of the status of safety functions before the facility is pressurized with hydrocarbons for full-scale testing. At the same time, we believe this could set a new standard for how the industry approaches the commissioning of such functions in the future.”
One of the largest developments on the Norwegian continental shelf
Yggdrasil is located between Alvheim and Oseberg in the North Sea and is one of the largest developments currently underway on the Norwegian continental shelf. The project opens up a mature area with significant resources.
The area consists of the Hugin, Fulla and Munin license groups, with gross recoverable resources estimated at around 800 million barrels of oil equivalent, with additional upside potential.Aker BP is the operator of the project, with Equinor and Orlen Upstream Norway as license partners.
